Big Rapids Public Schools (BRPS) has earned recognition for its dedicated implementation of the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), a framework that utilizes research-based strategies to meet the needs of all students. MTSS helps districts assess their systems using data-driven approaches, ultimately refining and enhancing student support across all levels.
Last year, BRPS collected baseline data to determine priority areas for system improvements, resulting in significant progress district-wide. Through district and building assessments conducted twice annually, BRPS tracks its advancements, setting new goals to continually improve student support. This commitment has not only strengthened BRPS’s framework but also garnered acknowledgment from the State of Michigan for the district's strides in MTSS implementation.
A key part of the district's MTSS approach is the CARDS system, which guides students in developing core character traits. CARDS stands for being Compassionate, Accountable, Responsible, Determined, and Safe—traits that BRPS instills in students to help them thrive not only in school but also as they engage in their community and grow into adulthood. This focus on character development aligns with BRPS's commitment to creating a supportive, well-rounded educational environment for every student.
BRPS extends gratitude to the dedicated district teams and the committed staff at all levels who play essential roles in this success. Their hard work, enthusiasm, and commitment to the MTSS framework ensure that every student receives the support and encouragement they need to succeed.
